Imagine sitting at your kitchen table or in your classroom, dreaming up an idea — and then watching it come to life. That’s the magic of Student Government (Stu-Go) at RVS. For students in Grades 1–6, Stu-Go isn’t just a club; it’s a place where imagination becomes action, where leadership begins right at Grade One, and where every idea, big or small, has the chance to shape our school community.
Each year, students campaign for a spot in Stu-Go, and that’s where the wonder begins. Campaigning teaches them how to share their ideas, speak confidently, and participate in a democratic process. Once elected, they get to bring their ideas to life from spirit days like Fancy Attire Monday to weekly assembly announcements where they practice public speaking by sharing birthdays, holidays, and school events.

Some of the Grade Six students also said that they loved being able to participate in Stu-Go and sharing theirs and their classmates ideas with the whole school.
One Grade six student also loved the public speaking he’s able to do.
“When I first started Stu Go, I wasn’t very comfortable with public speaking, but now I love it.” he explained.
This month, Stu-Go wrapped up the year with one final initiative before summer break: a school-wide food drive for the Calgary Food Bank. All Stu-Go participants delivered 281 pounds of food to the Calgary Food Bank themselves. Students toured the facility, met staff and volunteers, and learned firsthand how their efforts support families across Calgary.
“It was also really cool to see all the behind the scenes sat the food bank and see all of their big warehouses” said one of our Grade Six students.
Stu-Go lays foundation for understanding how communities work and how to contribute, speaking, sharing, and leading It also allows student to work with peers to plan events and solve problems
And their initiatives are everywhere:
- Stuffy Day
- Pyjama Day
- Food drives
- Maker’s Market
- And Snacky Wednesdays, where a snack cart rolls through RVS every few months, and students practice financial literacy is another Stu-Go idea brought to life.

We couldn’t be prouder of the leadership, kindness, and creativity our Stu-Go students have shown all year. Their ideas make RVS a vibrant place to learn, and their actions make our community full of wonder
