Volunteering at RVS

Wonder doesn’t happen by chance. It is cultivated through a community that believes in the potential of every child. At River Valley School, volunteers play an essential role in bringing that vision to life. Whether helping at events, reading with students, sharing professional expertise, serving on a committee, or supporting school initiatives, every hour given strengthens our community and creates exceptional opportunities for learning, connection, and growth.

Whether you’re helping at an event, supporting a classroom activity, serving on a committee, or sharing your time and talents, volunteers play an important role in enriching the student experience and strengthening our school community.

Volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Supporting classroom activities, field trips, and special events
  • Assisting with the Parent Network and community-building initiatives
  • Helping plan and execute fundraising events such as the Gala and Annual Fund campaigns
  • Sharing professional expertise, skills, or community connections
  • Serving as a Grade Rep or Community Ambassador

All volunteers are required to have a valid Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, which remains valid for three years.

Volunteer Policies & Procedures

To help ensure the safety and well-being of our students, volunteers participating in school field trips, classroom read-alouds and other positions of trust must complete a valid Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (PIC VS) and all required RVS Volunteer Forms.

Police Information Checks are valid for three years from the date of issue. Visitors, parents attending school events and special guest speakers participating under staff supervision do not require a Police Information Check.

Email info@rivervalleyschool.ca to get started. Our receptionist, Ms. Lori, will send you:

  • A personalized RVS Volunteer Letter to use with your police check application
  • All required RVS Volunteer Forms to complete

  • You will need two pieces of original government-issued identification.
  • Visit the Calgary Police Service website and select:
    • Apply for Your Police Information Check.
    • Select Option 1 – Calgary Residents (MAIN).
    • Apply for a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (PIC VS) using your RVS Volunteer Letter.

Once you receive your Police Information Check, email the following documents together to info@rivervalleyschool.ca:

  • Your completed Police Information Check
  • All required RVS Volunteer Forms

Once your documents have been received and reviewed, you will be ready to volunteer at RVS.
