Overview

River Valley School is a place where childhood is cherished, every child is known by heart, and learning feels like it truly belongs to them.

We’re an independent school offering a one-of-a-kind early childhood and elementary experience from Pre-Junior Kindergarten (age 3) to Grade 6. Nestled along the river in northwest Calgary, our school of around 300 students feels more like a family than a campus.

What sets us apart is our deeply personalized approach. With small class sizes, a dedicated educational assistant in every classroom, and a full spectrum of support—from learning assistance to enrichment and gifted programming—we meet each student exactly where they are.

Our inquiry-based learning approach encourages curiosity, risk-taking, and hands-on discovery. We value character and connection as much as achievement, helping students build confidence, empathy, and a strong sense of self.

Students also benefit from a robust specialist program—including Art, Drama, Music, French Language, Outdoor Education, Physical Education, and Library—starting at age 3.

To support busy families, we offer:

  • A warm, caring before and after school program (7 AM – 6 PM) for Pre-JK to Grade 6

  • Busing services for families in select communities across Southwest, Central, and Northwest Calgary
