Wonder lives in a nurturing space where children feel safe and confident to take risks and be leaders.

Student Achievement and Engagement

At River Valley School, student achievement and engagement grow from a deep respect for childhood and a genuine sense of wonder. We nurture a culture of inquiry, where students learn by exploring, questioning, and discovering — and where curiosity is seen as a powerful driver of learning.

Our approach is intentionally non-competitive. We believe children do their best work when they feel safe to take risks, reflect, try again, and grow at their own pace. Strong relationships are at the heart of our school. When students feel known and supported, they are more willing to ask thoughtful questions, share ideas, and persist through challenges.

Learning at River Valley is hands-on and connected. Students engage in guided inquiry, real-world projects, and cross-curricular experiences that make learning meaningful and memorable. Specialist classes in music, art, drama, health, French, library, physical education, and outdoor learning broaden their perspectives and spark new passions.

This balance of inquiry, creativity, and relationships helps our students grow into compassionate, confident, and capable human beings. They move into the world not only academically prepared, but also grounded in kindness, curiosity, and the ability to succeed while lifting others up — the true mark of success in an ever-changing world.

Innovation and Technology

Our students are encouraged to investigate, question, design, build, and imagine across the domains of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Through hands-on learning and joyful discovery, they gain a deeper understanding of how things work and why ideas matter.

We integrate technology thoughtfully and at developmentally appropriate stages — always as a tool for creation and problem-solving, never as something to simply consume. Whether students are tinkering, coding, collaborating, or prototyping, technology helps push their thinking further and strengthens their ability to connect learning across subjects.

Our students grow as confident creators and innovators by engaging in the Design Thinking process and developing essential 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and digital literacy (coding, robotics, web design, and more).

Our STEAM program includes:

  • A fully cross-curricular approach that weaves STEAM concepts into everyday learning

  • 1:1 iPad program (Grades 1–6) to support creativity, collaboration, and personalized learning

  • Chromebook carts for research, writing, and digital projects

  • Interactive BenQ Boards that bring lessons to life

  • Age-appropriate STEAM tools such as coding platforms, Spheros, and Bee-Bots

  • A focus on Digital Citizenship that highlights safe, responsible, and caring use of technology

At River Valley School, we spark curiosity, fuel creativity, and help every child become a capable, compassionate problem-solver — ready to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
