Wonder lives in a nurturing space where children feel safe and confident to take risks and be leaders.

At River Valley School, learning begins with curiosity. We believe children learn best when they feel known, supported, and inspired to ask questions, explore new ideas, and discover their individual best.

Our learning environment is intentionally designed to nurture the whole child. Through meaningful relationships, hands on experiences, and opportunities to think creatively and solve problems, students develop the confidence to take risks, persevere through challenges, and find joy in learning.

Our approach is intentionally non competitive. Rather than focusing solely on outcomes, we value the learning journey itself, encouraging students to reflect, collaborate, try again, and grow at their own pace. When children feel safe to be curious, they become more engaged, resilient, and motivated learners.

Inquiry-Based Learning

Inquiry is at the heart of the River Valley experience. Instead of simply memorizing information, students are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, investigate ideas, make meaningful connections, and discover solutions through exploration.

Learning is active, purposeful, and connected to the real world. Guided by skilled teachers, students engage in projects and experiences that encourage collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and reflection. Along the way, they build the confidence to become independent learners who embrace challenges with curiosity and optimism.

Our specialist programs in Art, Drama, Music, French, Library, Physical Education, Health, and Outdoor Education enrich classroom learning while helping students discover new interests, talents, and perspectives.

STEAM & Innovation

Our STEAM program includes:

  • A brand new STEAM Studio launching Fall 2027!
  • Cross curricular STEAM experiences integrated throughout the curriculum
  • A 1:1 iPad program for students in Grades 1 through 6
  • Chromebook carts for research and collaborative projects
  • Interactive BenQ Boards in every classroom
  • Age appropriate robotics, coding, and engineering tools
  • A strong focus on digital citizenship and responsible technology use

Innovation is woven throughout learning at River Valley School through STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

Students investigate, design, build, test, create, and imagine as they explore authentic challenges and real world problems. Whether coding a robot, engineering a solution, designing a prototype, or applying mathematical thinking to everyday situations, students learn that creativity and perseverance are just as important as finding the right answer.

Technology is thoughtfully integrated at developmentally appropriate stages as one of many tools that supports learning. Students use technology to create, collaborate, communicate, and solve problems while developing the digital literacy and digital citizenship skills needed for the future.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Some of the most meaningful learning happens beyond the classroom.

Our beautiful riverside campus and natural learning spaces encourage students to explore, observe, collaborate, and connect with the world around them. Through Outdoor Education, nature based inquiry, and experiential learning opportunities, students develop confidence, resilience, environmental stewardship, and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.

Every classroom, specialist space, outdoor environment, and shared gathering place is intentionally designed to spark curiosity, foster belonging, and inspire children to discover the joy of learning.
