Igniting Wonder: The Power of Student Clubs

When was the last time you tried something new, something you never thought you’d get the chance to explore? At RVS, it’s a regular occurrence. Every year, students bring new ideas to the table, and our number of clubs continues to grow, creating spaces for learning, collaboration, and creativity.

RVS currently has 12 student-proposed clubs running, each one created from the passions and interests of the students themselves. Celestial Club offers students the chance to uncover the mysteries of the stars and planets while exploring how they align with their own lives. Write-On Club allows students to write about major school events and student and staff spotlights. Spelling Bee Club is in full training mode, helping students prepare for the RVS spelling bee and the Calgary-wide competition. For those interested in world history, History Club allows students to learn about major events and ask questions about the past they might not have thought about before. Meanwhile, Prop Club recently showcased their creativity by crafting stunning paper-mâché bird puppets from recycled materials for our Earth Day assembly.

Clubs are are a gateway to personal and educational growth that serve students well beyond their school years. Clubs also create a strong sense of community. Students interact with peers outside their usual friend groups and build relationships that help them expand their perspectives. Learning isn’t limited to the classroom at RVS, it thrives in spaces where students feel empowered to take risks, think outside the box, and embrace creativity. So whether students dream of writing, creating, leading, or discovering, there’s a club for that. And if there isn’t—there’s always space to create one.
